Sorry folks... the crazy lazy hazy dawg daze of summer have found this ol' pup hanging poolside lappin' at the water dish and not keepin' up very well with the goings-on in and around Browns Town.
But alas, it's August and after a long and - at times, painful-to-watch lockout, gridiron greats and hopefuls all across the country are strapping on the pads, hitting the practice fields and bulking up for the 2011 National Football League Season.
One of the most unfortunate casualties of the lockout was the first pre-season game scheduled in Canton, Ohio between the St. Louis Rams and the Chicago Bears.
With the deal reached too late to save the game, the Canton community was devastated but rose to the occasion and maintained the rest of Hall of Fame weekend's scheduled events including many geared toward the kids and their involvement in the annual festivities.
From children's charity events to the well loved "First Play" action to the Grande parade taking place the morning of August 6th, children and their families had much to enjoy as the weekend unfolded. And enjoying many of those things right alongside the fine folks of Canton and the surrounding area were the Members and Potential Members of the Professional Football Ultimate Fan Association. (aka PFUFA)
From the moment they descended upon the quiet little Comfort Inn of Dover, Ohio to the moment they packed up their trading cards, face-paint and other alter-ego accoutrements, the PFUFA gang had some laughs, shared some tears and created yet another chapter of memories to last a lifetime.
So today, I raise the water dish to the PFUFA Class of 2011 - to the enduring community of Canton, Ohio - and to NFL fans everywhere.
May your season be sportsmanlike, safe and full of good times ---- and may the best and most deserving team be holding up the trophy when it all comes down to the line in Lucas Oil Stadium on February 5, 2012.
Cheers! |
