Well.
I have to tell you, it’s not easy writing a commentary/blog about a football game when the game leaves you… speechless.
I considered simply updating with “  *shaking my head*  “ and leaving it at that but because there were glimmers of good amid the muck of what turned out to be a 19-17 Bengals win, I decided to give it some thought before I tossed out my two cents.

So… after spending the better part of the week up to my collar in holiday mayhem, I hoped to find the inspiration to write something profound but really?  Let’s not kid ourselves.

Another week of horrendous play calling leaves Brian Daboll looking like a giant chew toy to me and Eric Mangini looks like the appointment is all but set for his neutering.

However… I am a Browns fan.  So I continue to look for a bright spot in a big, stinky pile of ugly.

Last Sunday’s bright spot… Colt McCoy.
His leadership on the field continues to impress me and when he’s given the time and opportunity to throw the ball, he makes things happen.

  • Case in point – he was 19 for 25 with zero interceptions and two touchdowns including a 46 yard touchdown pass to Brian Robiskie.  (Brian’s first in the league. Congratulations Brian and welcome to the NFL.) and a 20 yard touchdown pass to Robert Royal.
  • Case in point – a 93 passer rating in his first six games in the National Football League --- a 132.6 passer rating for the Cincinnati game alone.

Intimidation is not a factor for this young quarterback.  Despite his 2-4 record, he’s performed well against premier teams this season and the calm demeanor that comes with carrying the title of winningest QB in the NCAA serves him well under pressure.

Heaven only knows what we’ll see against the Ravens and Steelers as we close out this roller coaster season.

What I do know is that I’ll still be watching, I’ll still be cheering and I’ll still be hoping to see some magic on the field.  I love the game of football and I love the Cleveland Browns.

GO BROWNS!!
