The official Dawg WARDen “About Us” section would not be complete without the four-legged members of our family.  Molly and Hanford are integral members of our happy family and it’s impossible to know us without knowing them.

Each was a rescue in one form or another and each has their own unique personality, their own quirks and their own very special place in the Ward family.

Molly Molly

The elder (but not "old"-er) sister of our pair of pups is Molly – aka Miss Molly May Boo.

She, along with her brothers and sisters, were surrendered to a no-kill shelter in Boston Heights, Ohio back in the fall of 2003. When we arrived after reading an ad for mixed breed puppies in the paper, she was the last of her litter awaiting a forever home. The smallest in the box, she crawled inside John’s coat and looked up at him as he held her and it became immediately clear she had chosen us as her forever family. To this day, she remains a daddy’s girl and her favorite thing to do is ride shotgun in the car with him.

Originally presumed to be of Black Lab-and-something-else descent, the ‘something else’ part became an intriguing mystery for us when, around her first birthday, her ears suddenly “popped up” and resulted in her now famous dingo-dog appearance.

Though very loving and extremely nurturing in spirit, Molly is a bit of an OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Dog) – especially when it comes to her racquet balls.  Molly has amazing skill when it comes to catching, retrieving or tracking down a ball. She occasionally falls asleep with them in her mouth, which is why we now refer to them as her binky balls. Always the fretful one when someone is under the weather or her schedule is out of whack, Molly’s worrisome ways make her the most neurotic and most tenderhearted pup we've ever had.

Molly’s favorite Cleveland Browns player: Josh Cribbs
Reason: Because when there is a ball in play on the field, Josh is there… and when there is a ball in play at home, Molly is there.

Hanford Hanford

As the newest K9 addition to the Ward family, Hanford (aka Meatball) is a bundle of unbridled energy rescued from the Ashtabula County Humane Society in February of 2014.

Still learning the rules and regulations of the family, he’s fitting in well and keeps everyone on their toes. One of his favorite activities is to run at break-neck speed from one end of the house to the other and while those bursts of energy often land him hard time on the time-out leash, he’s getting better at finding ways to expend that energy and therefore, he’s spending less and less time in the penalty box. “He sleeps like a teenage boy,” says Melissa of his out like a light, reluctant to get out of bed in the morning habits.

He plays hard and crashes just as hard when the time comes.

Though he hasn’t experienced an official football season with the family yet, his name – along with his rough & tumble personality - indicates he’ll be a defense kind of guy when it comes to identifying his favorite parts of the game. He’s a hard hitter, fast and without fear, a bit noisy and rather hyper focused and hard to distract from anything he sets his sights on.

That said, we suspect he may have a strong spiritual connection with our newest Safety, Mr. Donte Whitner – hailing from THE Ohio State University!!

O – H .... I – O!!!
